Each year nearly 4,000 Tri-State residents are transported and cared for by Heartland EMS. Heartland uses a system approach when called so you are matched to the most cost efficient and medically appropriate transportation.
Healthcare transport options available include:
- Emergency paramedic ambulance response locally;
- Non-emergency ambulance transport;
- Inter-facility non-emergency, emergency and critical care transfers; and
- Ambulatory and wheelchair shuttle service.

The Heartland EMS Membership Program
The Heartland EMS Membership is a voluntary program that improves the quality of emergency medical services, alternative medical transport services and inter-facility transports right here in our own community.
As a member your benefits include:
- Limits your out-of-pocket expense for the uninsured portion of Heartland EMS ambulance bill(s) for medically necessary transportation. If you have Medicare or insurance, your membership takes care of your out-of-pocket expense for such services. If you do not have Medicare or insurance, membership provides you with a discount of 20% off Heartland’s usual charges for medically necessary ambulance transportation.
- 10% off ambulette service.
- 10% off ambulatory and wheelchair shuttle service.
- 20% off Lifeline Personal Response System monthly charges.
- Coverage for your entire household anywhere in the Tri-States.
- Umbrella coverage for visitors who suffer an emergency medical incident at your household.
- Community support – When you become a member of Heartland EMS, you are providing a public service by supporting our life-saving emergency ambulance service and the alternative transport services. You may never need our services, but a neighbor or loved one might. Your membership support literally will help save lives in your community and connect those in need to health care.
Heartland EMS will not be responsible for payment of services provided by other ambulance or medical transport services.
What about Insurance?
Even if you have insurance, it probably does not cover all of the costs incurred on a single emergency ambulance transport. Many insurance companies provide less than full coverage; some companies provide no coverage at all. Insurance does not cover ambulette service, shuttle transportation, emergency personal alert systems and most non-emergency ambulance service.
Is Heartland Part of the “911” Telephone System?
Heartland EMS is not part of the “911” telephone system. Heartland EMS ambulances however respond every day to emergency calls for assistance. Because Heartland EMS provides so many different types of transport service people needing an ambulance or other transportation services need to call the Heartland dispatch center at 556-1001. Heartland EMS ambulances provide 911 types of emergency responses often exceeding the capabilities of average 911 ambulance providers.
How to Become a Member and the Fee
Heartland EMS is able to offer memberships at reasonable rates thanks to thousands of supportive members. Group and business memberships also are available.
The Heartland EMS Membership is available for just $45.00 per year perhousehold.
That’s less than 13 cents a day to ensure that the highest quality of emergency medical care and medical transportation is available when you need help.
